One of the auction houses that makes private sales is Christie's, a British auction house. This auction sold luxury bags at unbelievably high prices among many items, and here's the list of them.

Sold in June 2018 at Christie's New York, this 'Chinese doll' Chanel bag is one among the three rare versions of the Matryoshka Dolls. It's made of a sturdy black lucite body, pearls, chains, enamel Camelia flower, and crystals. Interestingly, that these dolls are hand-painted, which makes them incredibly unique. The Chinese doll was shown in the pre-fall Chanel Paris-Shanghai Métiers d'Art 2010 collection.

As metallic leather is a rarity, this bag is one of the most expensive bags in the world. Made by Hermès in 2005, it was sold in December 2017. The bag was inspired by Leïla Menchari, the window dresser who made fascinating window displays for the brand's flagship store at 24, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. The installation included aluminum horses, glistering thread cobwebs, grottoes, mother-of-pearl Moroccan souks, and various Hermès bags: pieces in iridescent sea-foam green crocodile for grotto window, for Alhambra - fretwork lace Birkins, steel Kellys for Trojan horse display. And the bags were not available for sale. Consequently, as part of the Mondore collections, the brand released an assortment of metallics dedicated exclusively to VIP clients. Obviously, the bag was produced in minimal numbers because the craftsman had to add lots of coloring to the color it had gained.

Sold in 2010 in Mayfair, London, this bag has 18-karat diamonds and white gold. Some sources claim there were many online bidders for this bag, but only one anonymous buyer managed to get it. Indeed, the color this bag has looks mysterious and charming at the same time.

This Hermès Birkin bag is the most expensive in the Hermes' Limited Edition "So Black" Collection. It included a black felt protector, clochette, lock and keys, black dust bag, exotic card, and a black box. No wonder it was sold in 2019 at this price. The bag is made of crocodile leather and has diamond and white gold hardware.

One more rare and super-expensive Hermès Birkin bag that is made of leather of Nilo crocodile. It's unusual because its colors remind the image of the beautiful Himalayan mountains. To gain this effect, the craftsmen had to work on it for many hours. So, the bag was sold in 2019, and it's almost nowhere to be found.

This is the most expensive Hermès Birkin bag that has ever been auctioned at Christie's. Made of the Niloticus crocodile and covered in diamond hardware and 18k white gold, it was bought in 2017. Interestingly, there were first-time bidders for this bag.

Christie's is not the only auction expensive bags were sold in. The Hermès Kelly Rose Gold costs $2 million. The brand's jeweler Pierre Hardy worked hard for two years to create this bag of genuine rose gold and 1600 diamonds. The bag imitates leather, and it's composed of pure gold. Unsurprisingly, there's a limited edition, twelve pieces created in three distinct variations.

Most of the bags, the most expensive ones in the world today, belong to one brand - Hermès. The Birkin bags are unique because they're handmade from leather. They're named after a famous English singer and actress, Jane Birkin. Birkin bags are considered a symbol of wealth because of their high price and long waiting lists. Obviously, their costs vary depending on the type of leather, whether jewels, precious metals, and exotic skins are used or not.

Moreover, the bags are distributed to Hermès boutiques on unknown schedules and in limited quantities, making them even more desirable and exclusive. Yet, the bags have been sold online and in second-hand boutiques (resellers). Well, Hermès found humans' linchpin - everyone wants to have something unique and rare.
